As the
academic season set in, we are totally geared up with renewed energies to roll
out this year Srujanavani Scholarship disbursement process. Reaching out to the
needy students has always boosted our morale to support the financial
requirements of the students. Within the limited financial resources we have
always strived to meet the most needy with a comprehensive process of selection
in place. As is the case every year, this year has registered an unprecedented
response from the students. This entire process of Scholarship disbursement
spans over 45 days with various activity conducted in various phases. The
scholarship program is equally spread in the rural as well as Urban areas of
Visakhapatnam.
Phase I: Invitation of
Applications
College
authorities of nearly 12 colleges (10 Inter and Degree colleges in Rural and 2
Polytechnic colleges in Urban) were approached with our intention to support
the poor and needy students with financial support. Applications were invited
from students containing basic information regarding their financial status. In
the process we have received a total of 950 applications.
Phase II: Screening of the
students
An exam to
screen the students was conducted to ascertain their real requirement. Of the
950 applications, 400 students were invited for the screening exam. The exam
was primarily qualitative in nature and not rooted in their academic abilities,
explaining their financial condition and discussing about their dreams. In the
entire process, the college authorities were totally supportive of the activity
that was executed. Without their support we would not be in a position to
execute the screening process in a smooth and swift manner.
Phase III: Interviews &
House visits:
Basis the
result achieved in the written test, a total of 200 students were invited for
the interview. Interviews were conducted at our Skill Development Centre -
Vadaddi and Srujanavani Activity Centre - Gopalpatnam. Interview panels were
formed and the students had a one-on-one session with the panel members. The
interactions included knowing about their financial status. Followed by the
interview process, house visits were undertaken to understand the real
condition of the students.
Phase IV: Announcement of
Result and disbursement of scholarship letters.
Finally, a
total of 130 students were shortlisted for this year Srujanavani Scholarship
Program. Announcements were made in the respective colleges through their
administrative authorities. On the eve of Independence Day celebrations the
same students were handed over the scholarship confirmation letters.
Lastly, the students were
invited to participate in a 2 day residential program. The students were
explained of the responsibility that the scholarship endows with it. Besides,
they were also informed to dream big in life and strive to achieve their
dreams. With smiles on their faces, we feel that the hardship of last one month
is with a reason and that inspires us to keep moving. Besides, we take this
opportunity to thank all our partners, and in particular Team
Shikshadhaan for their generous contributions towards the cause.
